Outside Central World, another shrine can be seen.

Thailand – Bangkok; Walking down the streets (5)

Hi! Yup.. I am still walking around Bangkok on my last day. Still walking around Patpong district.

As it got later into the day, more and more people were coming onto the streets.

Not sure what these guys were looking at though. Must some kind of painting that the street painter was doing.

20140501-021043 pm.jpg

Leaving Patpong district, I took the BTS heading to the largest shopping plaza in Bangkok; Central World.

Stopped at BTS Siam stationĀ  which is next to Siam Paragon shopping complex. Just a walking distance away.

20140501-021047 pm.jpg

Enjoyed the walk on elevated walkway; skybridge above the busy buzzing streets below.

20140501-021053 pm.jpg

I kept walking and headed to the Central World. This time I wanted to see how big and what’s inside the biggest complex in Bangkok.

20140501-021111 pm.jpg

Lovely design…

Well… join me on my last posting in Bangkok which will be coming up soon.

Thailand – Bangkok; Walking down the streets (3)

Hi! It’s my last day in Bangkok for this series. Where did I head to before catching my jetplane back? I guess you guessed it.. it’s Patpong district. Yes, the famous red light area but I wanted to see how it is in the morning instead. =)

As usual, getting around Bangkok wasĀ either by foot or BTS (and some say bike or tuk tuk). I stuck to the conventional transport. Haha.

Stop at Shilom MRT Station and started walking. Guess… itĀ wasĀ always (and will always be) the best way to see the places walking around. That’s my concept. =)

Lots of over heads bridges to cater for the traffic in Bangkok. Cars motorbikes everywhere.

20140501-020719 pm.jpg

Near the Shilom MRT station is a park; Lumphini ParkĀ where I saw locals doing their morning walk and no I did not walk the whole park. =P LOL!!

20140501-020725 pm.jpg

The park is surrounded (nearly 360 degree) by modern concrete jungle.

20140501-020731 pm.jpg

Walking further down Ratchadamri Rd (hmmmm.. that sounds familiar. Yes… it is a long road and it passes through Central World shopping plaza and complex which I posted in my previous posting)

Near by is theĀ BTS Sala Daeng station which is on the BTS Shilom Line where you can also catch the train to get to the Patpong district.

20140501-020737 pm.jpg

Walking down the street in Patpong district in the morning was totally different hive of activities.

20140501-020743 pm.jpg

Of course, it is also not as packed at compared to the night as seen from the picture below.

20140501-020754 pm.jpg

Lots of sign boards sticking out from the shops.

20140501-020759 pm.jpg

Ending here? Hell no!! LOL! More walking along this district in my next post. Stay tune… =)

Thailand – Bangkok; Walking down the streets (2)

Welcome back! Where were we? Oh yes… Ratchadamri Rd towards Rama 1 Rd.

On Ratchcadamri Rd, you can find the largest Central World which is the 6th largest shopping plaza and complex in the world but again, I am not into shopping. =P

Anyway, we arrived at the junction of the Ratchadamri Rd and Rama 1 Rd where you will find Erawan Shrine. ItĀ houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of the Hindu creation god Brahma. It is a popular tourist attraction.

20140501-020522 pm.jpg

Another shot of the shrine.

20140501-020529 pm.jpg

Worshipers coming to pray and give offerings.

20140501-020535 pm.jpg

It often features performances by resident Thai dance troupes, who are hired by worshipers in return for seeing their prayers at the shrine answered as seen below.

Worshipers praying toĀ Erawan Shrine.

20140501-020548 pm.jpg

The elevated pedestrian crossing over Ratchadamri Rd and Rama 1 as the traffic there is very heavy.

Loving it? Stay with me on my next posting. =)

Thailand – Bangkok; Ride down River Chao Phraya (9)

Welcome to my last posting on my series ofĀ Bangkok; Ride down River Chao Phraya.

Still walking around the Wat Arun compound.Ā Another angle shot of the central prang from a different entrance.

20140501-015808 pm.jpg

Close up show of the central prang.

20140501-015815 pm.jpg

Time to move on. Taking the ferry to our next ferry stop; Saphan Phut pier. A shot from the ferry overlooking Wat Arun.

20140501-015820 pm.jpg

It was a short ferry ride before we reach Saphan Phut pier.

20140501-015826 pm.jpg

Nothing much here as but you can see old buildings and the locals. There’s also a wet market here but unfortunately, it is close as the time we reached there if was already late afternoon else it will be interesting to see the locals in the market with the activities.

20140501-015833 pm.jpg

Enough for today on the river cruise down Chao Phraya river. Taking a ferry back to Sathon pier.

Saw this in the ferry; ‘Space fpr monks’

20140501-015843 pm.jpg

Something interesting to note. =)

Anyway, that’s the end of this series on the ride down the river Chao Phraya. Stay tune for the next series.=)

Thailand – Bangkok; Ride down River Chao Phraya (8)

Hi!! Great to see that you are still following me. It’s been a long 7 posting journey. We are nearly at the end. Bear with me a little more. =)

Near the exit of the Wat Pho, the view of the temple.

20140501-015516 pm.jpg

Walking outside Wat Pho temple is the Tha Tien Pier. There is also a market at Tha Tien pier which you can see all sorts of dried food being sold.

20140501-015523 pm.jpg

From Tha Tien Pier, we took the ferry across to the next temple crossing Chao Phraya river. What temple is that you may ask?

Well… it’s theĀ Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan or famously known asĀ Wat Arun Temple. It is located atĀ Bangkok YaiĀ district ofĀ Bangkok,Ā Thailand, on theĀ ThonburiĀ west bank of theĀ Chao Phraya River.

Wat Arun is among the best known of Thailand’s landmarks and the first light of the morning reflects off the surface of the temple with pearly iridescence.

The entrance…..

Thailand – Bangkok; Ride down River Chao Phraya (7)

Thanks for being with here. Still walking within the compounds of Wat Pho, there are lots of beautiful architecture to enjoy and also to see the locals coming here to pray and give offering aside from the tourists (like myself) wondering around the temple.

A shot of the temple inside. Yup I would say a near perfect clear blue sky which means it was also quite hot too.

Another shot of the temple…..

UbosotĀ is a building in a Buddhist Wat. It is the holiest prayer room andĀ called the “ordination hall” as it is whereĀ ordinationsĀ take place

20140501-015327 pm.jpg

Guess… sometimes.. words can’t describe them unless you see it with your own eyes the beauty of it.

Thailand – Bangkok; Ride down River Chao Phraya (6)

Thanks for following me this far. We are more than half way through my series; Thailand – Bangkok; Ride down River Chao Phraya.

One of the buildings close to the Grand Palace. Not sure what building is this. Anyone knows?

20140501-015119 pm.jpg

Anyway.. let head inside of Wat Pho. ItĀ is aĀ BuddhistĀ temple inĀ Phra Nakhon district,Ā Bangkok,Ā Thailand. Located in the Rattanakosin district directly adjacent to theĀ Grand Palace.Ā It is also known also as theĀ Temple of the Reclining Buddha, where it’s official name isĀ Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhlaram Ratchaworamahawihan.Ā I also got to know that the temple is the birthplace for traditional Thai Massage. =O

View from outside the perimeter of the temple. Lots of vendor stalls outside the temple selling souvenirs.

20140501-015135 pm.jpg

Wat Pho is one of the largest and oldest Wat templesĀ in Bangkok; 80,000 square metersĀ and is home to more than one thousandĀ Buddha images, as well as one of the largest single Buddha images of 160Ā ft lengthĀ Reclining Buddha.
