Still with me? Good. Here more pictures of Damnoen Saduak Ratchaburi Floating Market.

Still ‘strolling’ along the canal. As later in the day, traffic does gets really bad. =)

20140331-114110 am.jpg

Lots of boat service along the side. In fact, you can stop and get off and visit the stalls. More like a boat stop.

20140331-114116 am.jpg

More food…..

20140331-114124 am.jpg

even more food…. LOL!!!

20140331-114130 am.jpg

Fruits too…

20140331-114137 am.jpg

Buy coconut water from the vendor on the boat. Nice to have on a hot day especially if you are in the boat with no covers. =)

20140331-114143 am.jpg

Boat driver pedaling the boat along the canal.

Thailand – Bangkok, Visit to Damnoen Saduak Ratchaburi Floating Market (3)

Thanks for staying with me. The floating market in Damnoen Saduak is really interesting and lots of things to see (and photo shot too).

Lots of food which you can choose to try or buy from the vendors on the their boats.

20140331-113913 am.jpg

At the main part of the market, you can hop into a boat and take a ride along the canal.

20140331-113921 am.jpg

While in the boat, you can enjoy a slow ride (anyway the boat  driver cant go fast as the traffic is quite heavy)

20140331-113929 am.jpg

people taking photos from the boats..

20140331-113937 am.jpg

Going under a bridge. Stalls on the side selling their goods.

20140331-113944 am.jpg

As certain parts, the boat drivers have to turn off their motor and start pedaling as the flow on the canal is so congested with boats going in both direction.

20140331-113953 am.jpg

Another shot of vendors selling their good on the side.

20140331-114003 am.jpg

Interesting? Yup it is. More to picture coming……..

Thailand – Bangkok, Visit to Damnoen Saduak Ratchaburi Floating Market (2)

Welcome back to my trip to Damnoen Saduak Ratchaburi Floating Market. Sorry the lag here as I am currently traveling in Taiwan. Will share on my trip in Tainan, Taiwan in my coming posting after we complete  my Thailand series. =). Ok.. let’s get back ……

Passed a couple of bridges before we arrive that floating market.

20140331-113706 am.jpg

Lots of tour buses parked at the parking lots outside the market. Noticed that the Thai tour buses are really colourful and packed with decoration as seen below. Cute right?

20140331-113713 am.jpg

Walking from where we parked, we headed to the entrance of Damnoen Saduak Ratchaburi Floating Market.

20140331-113720 am.jpg

Welcome to the Damnoen Saduak Ratchaburi Floating Market!!! Before moving on, some brief information. Ratchaburi means “The land of the king” and it is one of the district located in the central of Thailand. Damnoen Saduak is one of its district and it’s most famous because of its floating market held every day till noon on a khlong. It’s attraction is seeing old style and traditional way of selling and buying fruits, vegetables, food etc.. from small boats.

20140331-113727 am.jpg

First sight as you enter the market (part of the long market) are the vendors all in the their boats with their goods all lined up.

20140331-113737 am.jpg

Another shot of the vendors in their boats.

20140331-113745 am.jpg

This vendor sells food. Looks yummy!!

20140331-113754 am.jpg

That’s not all. More to come. Look out for the next part. =)

Thailand – Bangkok, Visit to Damnoen Saduak Ratchaburi Floating Market (1)

Hi!!! This posting is about my trip to Thailand way back in the mid 2008. Yup. It been quite a while to write on this but it is better later than never sharing. =)

These were some of the views from one of the hotels located on Sukhumvit Rd taken in the morning which I stayed in.

20140331-113041 am.jpg

20140331-113058 am.jpg

Today, my trip was heading to the floating market in the Damnoen Saduak District in the Ratchaburi province. The trip was expected to take about 1hr to 1.5hrs but it all depends on the traffic out of Bangkok. Guess if I recalled, it took about 2hrs.

Stall selling packets of salt on the roadside during my trip to Ratchaburi province.

20140331-113105 am.jpg

That’s a huge can…..

20140331-113114 am.jpg

Padi fields sight along the way.

20140331-113120 am.jpg

Arriving at Damnoen Saduak District. Passing through the town.

20140331-113131 am.jpg

Passing over a canal on a bridge overlooking a floating market.

Interesting? Want more……? Well, stay tune for the next part. =)

Malaysia – A Ride through Penang’s 2nd Bridge (in B&W)

Finally I get to post this. I had taken photos earlier which was taken at night but it turn out bad. Guess I was traveling in a bus and bus was jumping here and there. This time I got it right. LOL!!

This trip was from Penang Island to the mainland Peninsular Malaysia trip. It is actually my 2 trip on this new Penang 2nd Bridge (it’s official name – Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge) since it opened in 1 March 2014.

During my trip back to Kuala Lumpur, the bus I took has decided to take the new route instead of the ‘old’ Penang Bridge (haha… it is already close to 29 years since it first open to the traffic) .

To get to the bridge, the bus had to take to coastal road is passing the Free Industrial Zone where most of the multinational companies are set up.

A shot of the coast with the background view of the bridge at it’s mainspan.

20140326-104525 pm.jpg

Construction of an elevated highway is in progress in the middle of the 2 carriageway. So traffic was slow but moving. (luckily it was not a working day else it will be massive jam.)

20140326-104535 pm.jpg

Another shot of the mainspan. Actually the mainspan is very much closer to the island as that point is the deepest part along the whole stretch of the 16.9km of bridge length on the water.

20140326-104544 pm.jpg

Entering the bridge. The exit is from Batu Maung on Island and arrive at Batu Kawan on mainland

20140326-104554 pm.jpg

The total length of the bridge is 24km (overland and water). Dual carriage and a dedicated motorbikes lane on each side.

20140326-104602 pm.jpg

Mainspan. This part is most beautiful at night when they lighted it up.

20140326-104610 pm.jpg

Coming down the mainspan, and if you can see far at the background, you will see the round dual carriage way is like a ‘snake’ like.

20140326-104615 pm.jpg

See it? Have you ever wonder why?

20140326-104622 pm.jpg

Exiting the bridge. On the other side is the toll which all vehicles have to pay toll. The price? Mmm… the government has yet to determine. So for the time being, everyone is enjoying the toll-free bridge.

20140326-104630 pm.jpg

Another toll? Yup. This is to toll which connects to the North South Expressway. Big arch right?

20140326-104637 pm.jpg

Close up shot.

20140326-104643 pm.jpg

Anyway that’s it. Hope you enjoy my ride on the Penang’s 2nd Bridge. Stay tune for my other posting. =)

Taiwan – Kaohsiung; Kai-Xuan Night Market. (5)

Final posting on Kaohsiung’s Kai-Xuan Night Market series. Hope you have enjoyed the earlier 4 part series. If you have missed them, do go back and a have a look. =)

This stall sells what looks like a pan cake but shape like balls. It’s ‘Gai Dan Jei’ or Eggette; ball pancake.

20140112-104240 pm.jpg

Looks cute, right?

20140112-104245 pm.jpg

Another stall selling deep fried crabs but I doubt these are soft shell crabs.

20140112-104251 pm.jpg

mmm.. not sure what this stall sells. Anyone knows?

20140112-104256 pm.jpg

Of course aside from food, you also find stalls selling socks…

20140112-104301 pm.jpg

ahem… and  underwears too!! Colourful ones, mind you!! haha

20140112-104306 pm.jpg

This look like seafood ball with prawn fillings.

20140112-104311 pm.jpg

Looks like a sushi conveyor belt. They are not selling Japanese sushi but it serves more of Taiwanese items which you can pick from the belt. Imagine a conveyor belt in the night market!!! Interesting right?

20140112-104316 pm.jpg

Piglet shape-like biscuit.

20140112-104322 pm.jpg

really cute looking…..

20140112-104327 pm.jpg

Before heading back to the MRT station, stopped at this stall to buy an aloe vera drink. Quite nice but you can taste the slight bitter slimmy sap of the aloe vera. =P

20140112-104334 pm.jpg
