Taiwan – Tainan; 2 Days Trip on History of Day 2 (16)

Finally. This is the last posting for this series on my trip to Tainan for the weekend. Hope you have enjoyed following me on this ‘e-trip’ .

Before ending the trip or heading back to Hsinchu, I had to walk back to the hostel. Walked through Tainan Train Station. It is one of the historic site. Opened back in the 1900 and it expanded since then.

Walking along the walkway to the hostel. You could see lots of scooters parked on both sides. Yup as it is near the famous university, National Cheng Kung University which was established in 1931. It’s nickname is Koxinga University.

Taiwan – Tainan; 2 Days Trip on History of Day 2 (1)

Hi!! Welcome back. Hope you enjoyed my earlier posting of my 1st day History trip to Tainan series; Taiwan – Tainan; 2 Days Trip of History and also my walk in the night market; Tainan’s Flower Night Market

This series is on my 2nd day outside the Old Tainan City but still reachable by their public transport. On weekends, Tainan government provided a tourist shuttle bus; Bus # 88 and #99 which goes around the interesting places around Tainan City. These buses only runs during the weekends (and may less frequent on weekdays).

You can check out the map either from the Tourist Info in the Tainan Railway station or you can get it from the hostel. (I got mine from the hostel). Cost? NTS18 per sector.

So, I hopped in on bus from the bus stop at National Cheng Kung University and took a ride all the way up to Mangrove Conservation Area at Sihcao Ecological and Cultural Area for my first stop.

What is a mangrove? Well, it is the kind of plant that grows at the boundary of sea and river and is able to live in the highly salt-concentrated environment.

They had 2 different kind of raft route rides; Sihcao Green Tunnel and Taijiang Boat Ride. Taijiang boat ride takes you out to the shore to explore the coastline of the wetland (this I will take in my next trip here. =) ).

This place is called Sihcao Green Tunnel and it was once a salt canal. I was told that it is 750 meters long and 20 meters wide. This canal was used to transport salt products from the drying field to the storage back in the days.

It takes you into the canal to examine closely to the plants and the species along the way. The 30 minute raft ride through the well preserved mangrove with greeneries covering the sides and rare species resting randomly in the woods is very relaxing. Very educational (but the tour language was in Mandarin or Hokkien. I do not think they have any in English)

The hut where you can buy your ticket  and also to catch your raft tour.

Taiwan – Tainan; 2 Days Trip on History (9)

Hi… Thanks for staying with me on my last posting on the 1st day in Tainan Old city. After a long day walking, I finally checked in the hostel in Tainan city; near the National Cheng Kung University. It’s on the opposite site of the Tainan railway station. A 20 min+ walk from the train station.

It is located in a small alley of the main street. Took me a while to look for it. In fact I walked passed it the 1st time but in the end I found it. No sign board as I was looking for one.

This is the entrance with a door bell. Opps… I forget to mentioned. The hostel is called Dorm 1828.
